Spring: a Season of Revitalization

Among four seasons in one year, spring would be my favorite time in my hometown Xian. Even though the summer is always full of various exhilarating outdoor activities such as swimming and bike-riding, its high temperature and sudden drenching rains irritate me. However, the springtime is different which stays more mild and comfortable. The spring time in Xian is short, therefore it become more precious for every citizen or tourist to enjoy its vigor and vitality.
By the time March rolls around, you can make an attempt to imagining putting your heavy winter coat away. It feels like you have lived through a long period of winter. In the middle of March, with the weather warming up, little green buds on the ends of the trees and flowers are starting to force their way into view. Afterwards, April hits and all of a sudden, the real spring is coming! The whole city is embraced by lush planets and lovely insects. Every flower seems to bloom at once. However, it still follows a strict sequence, for example, yellow winter jasmines and white plum blossom are the first to show their beauty. Then our campus turns into green, interspersed with pink cherry blossoms. The air teems with pleasant fragrance and bees manage to carve out a living, pollinating the intrepid flowers. Unlike soakers in the summer, the tender shower of spring falls down in a milder way. Usually the continuous rain lasts for several days, wishing out all the dirt. Maybe when one morning you weak up, you may surprise that all the road is covered with pink petals. Close the umbrella and breathe the fresh air, you can gain a euphoric experience from a season full of revitalization.
One important feature diverges Xian’s spring from others’ is the perfect combination of living plants and historic buildings. The imposing City Wall of Xian, which was used for defending the city from exotic nations’ invasion, has stood there for more than six hundred years. What you can feel by touching it is all about the history of a great empire and splendid culture. Surprisingly, it matches well with flourish trees. During the spring time, the trees cast their shadow on the City Wall and the shadow waves with the frequency of wind. It is just like they are telling stories to each other. Every time going through this boulevard after school, beneath the shade of both City Wall and trees, I can sense the exhilarating coolness. Besides, since Xian is the ancient capital of China, numerous poets and writers like Li Bai and Han Yu left their praise about the capital’s engaging spring. Today Xian’s spring still resembles its depiction of in poetries from Tang Dynasty. For instant, willows are still standing beside the lakeside, with their twigs jogging with the breeze. These twigs used to be the gift to somebody who was departing.
There is a saying that “since a student decided to pursue his university enducation outside his hometown, he can never experience his hometown’s springs or autumns’’. Acutually, in Singapore, I cannot enjoy three other seasons expect summer. It feels like and eternal summer with overwhleming hot weaves and sudden heavy rains at intervals. I really miss a spring full of revitalization, when cold weather terminates and everything seems promising. Maybe the spring does not only signify a period of time, but also indicates a state of mind full of pleasure and hope. Everyday can be in spring so just enjoy it!

The differences between Chinese jiaozi and Singapore’s

Last week my host family invited me to have lunch with me. When they told me that we were going to eat jiao, I immediately accept the invitation. Jiaozi is a typical food in China. If I had not been to Singapore, I would have already eaten hundreds of jiaozi this year. I fancy this dish a lot and have been longing to eat it recently, and that is the main reason why I agree to attend the lunch. When my host family and I were eating jiaozi a week later, I found that the flavor of Singapore jiaozi is quite similar to Chinese; however there still exist some differences between them.

First, in Singapore the dumpling wrappers have different colors. There is a very interesting dish that consists of eight dumplings of different colors in one food steamer. What’s more, each of these dumplings has different flavors. For instance, the white one stands for traditional flavor; the yellow one has mushroom flavor, and the pink one has a spicy taste. In contrary, most of Chinese dumplings are white, and the color does not indicate the taste.

Secondly, dumplings in Singapore are lonely. There are only several dumplings in one dish, and each dumpling keeps a distance from each other. The distance makes them seem isolated. And I was reluctant to eat them due to the small amount of them. Whereas, dumplings in Chinese dish are different. There are an amount of dumplings in one plate and they lie together shoulder to shoulder. Every time I can eat at least twenty dumplings.

The other salient difference is the price. Can you guess how much is a dumpling I ate? It is one Singapore dollar! However, in China I can use one Singapore dollar to buy more than twenty dumplings in HIT.

These are some differences I found about Chinese dumplings and Singapore’s. However, I think the Singapore dumplings share the similar taste with Chinese and even have a better taste than Chinese.

A simple process of deduction (Part 2)(Blog 8)

                                                                  Deducing
The deduction begins at two aspects. As for the technique aspect, I checked from Internet that the ways of stopping data transmission include the control of router, ARP attack, P2P killer.(This is what I can find. Besides it is the most common, effective and acceptable way in education, company and micro-LAN) It is a truth that in normal situation, students in RV cannot get access to Internet unless they use Proxy tool because the RV manager use at least one of the ways that was mentioned before to prevent the data transmission. Though the way of data transmission can be multiple or single, the RV manager must use at least two. P2P killer is included for we cannot use P2P protocol to download anything. I say it has at least two ways because my anti-P2P killer did not work. Then what is the other way? The control of router totally restraint the data so that you cannot get access to the Internet, but the truth that we can use Proxy server negate this way. For this reason, I can only suppose that the RV manager use the ARP attack tool to control our network use moderately in most of the time. But one day, the system broke down and sent the wrong ARP package to some of us randomly so that this thing happened. For the psychological aspect, the action of RV manager is quiet suspicious which indicate that he probably want to conceal the truth by making no mention. The respond of RV manager is quiet interesting and strange if we accept the common sense that this incident was by a hacker. Just suppose, if you were a manager. Your hostel suffers from ARP attack from a selfish hacker, what will you react? Will you employ a engineer to fix your system or find the hacker out?  I do not suggest that you employ a engineer for the cost is too high and if all these things are made by the hacker your system are okay though  the students computer are in trouble for the attacking target is the connection to your system but not your system’s connection to Internet. For if he/she attack your system, he/she will not get access to Internet. Look at this point, can you find the paradox; his/her motivation does not work at all. Besides, I wonder why he criticized that the behavior of writing the announcement. Though this behavior is hot blood, can we suppose that the manager is a partner of the hacker? Ha-ha, just kidding? The truth is obvious that he cannot admit that his system cause this problem so he try not get in touch with such topic and preserve his reputation as much as he can. As for why he complained about the Chinese students’ unhealthy Internet conduct such as watching some unhealthy things and use Proxy tool to surf on Internet at study time, I still can explain it. Maybe it is because that the unhealthy website may bring virus and the use of Proxy tool influence on the delivery of ARP package and lead to the system problem. All these things maybe were told by his consultable computer engineer employ and he just conveys these to us.
Last but not least I have two more evidences to share with you. The first is that I have a Dota friend in RV who is now in grade 3. When we play it together, he complains that why we SM3 students are always good at computer for he has suffered it twice. Then I know, it very likely to be an accident system disorder problem. The other is that I cannot get access to webpage just now, but I log in my QQ just now, it proves that it is not relevant to router anymore but points on ARP package.
At last I should state again that it is not a rigorous but a simple deduction, it may not show the underneath of the truth, but I can feel joy after a reasonable deduction.

(Blog 5)A simple process of deduction (Part 1)

                                                                       Origin

I have an idea which may proves that some existing conception is wrong. This idea is about the ARP attack in River Valley High School’s Hostel. The conventional and most acceptable explanation to this issue is that a hacker or more from H3 attack others’ computers to break their network down in order get more net resource so that he/she/they can get access to Internet more quickly. Actually I also hold this point till I enter a conference held by RV hostel manager. At that time, I begin to doubt on this issue on whether it is a malicious computer activity or just caused by accident. Then I gather information from both RV students and Internet which proves that I am probably right. This blog is just a deduction which may not absolutely right; what I focus on is the enjoyment when I deduce this problem. For this reason, if you disagree with my opinion or feel it insulting you IQ you can ignore it. Now that I have got the preparations ready, let the blog begin.

Let us review the ARP attack incident which happened about two months ago. Almost all RV Hostel boarders could not get access to the Internet suddenly which persisted for about two weeks. Many students had no ideas on what had happened because they found that they could not get access to webpage but could log in QQ. So some students who were good at computers and network explained that it was made by hacker on QQ and give the reason that I have mentioned. Then there was an announcement at the gate of the elevator which was made by some hot blood SM2 boarders. The main purpose of this announcement was to threaten the visual hacker that they would track his/her Mac and IP but in contrast made this issue even fierce. Meanwhile, some student masters came out some solutions to this problem such as changing the DNS from Singapore to China or other countries (FROM 165.21.100.88 TO 221.6.4.66), using Proxy server or some software. Consequently, this case gradually blew over and almost did not catch my attention anymore. But, the RV hostel held a conference at the canteen. The manager first enumerated problems and finally talked about the Internet issue. To my surprise, he did not condemn the hacker that was common accepted truth. In the contrast, he criticized that the behavior of writing the announcement is vicious and seemed that the writers is abusing others. Besides, he mentioned a detail the cost of employing a computer engineer is very costly but he had to invite one to build a system. Then he complained a lot on Chinese students’ unhealthy Internet conduct such as watching some unhealthy things and use Proxy tool to surf on Internet at study time. These increased my doubt that why he made no mention on malicious hacker and their behavior but talk about employ a engineer to fix their system. I guess that the truth maybe that the disorder of the system made this issue happened. If you have no interest or passion to deduce the result from the clues that I give, let me do it for you.

Blog 8: To revere and be close to Nature

Usually only when people confront the nature will they realize how awesome the nature is. It is a sense of respect from the deep heart, which is cultivated in human’s minds firmly from ancient times.
However, having been restricted in our own narrow space which is far from the nature every day, our hearts also gradually become narrow, since we just focus on limited things and too preoccupied with ourselves . Simply traveling from dormitories to CELC and watching the outside world’s sceneries from glasses of shuttle, we are increasingly living in our own world and seem to pay more attention to trivial affairs. Under this circumstance, our confidence will inflate, leading us to feel strong enough to dominate everything as well as have the belief that nothing is impossible.

However, when you look up to the countless bright stars and mysterious dark sky, you will get shame. The spacious universe gives all the beings under it a sense of suffocation. It is the pressure from the soul. Compared with the universe, you are just an ash and cannot influence anything. At this point, your heart will be full of the great of nature and insignificance as a human being, a strong reverence for nature. You will come to realize that there are so many things that we cannot do or even change. Then you will get humble and content.

There are only several decades in one’s whole life, and for some people, even shorter. Just like the Gypsies, they spend everyday as the last day of their life, since they can not predict whether they will breathe tomorrow’s fresh air or gone in the dream. So try to come near to the nature as long as you get chance. When you get out of your own world no matter the real or spirit one, you will understand that the value of life is beyond money and power. From the nature, you will find out the other forms of life and the true meaning of life existence. We feel no admire or despise to them, but a slight revere and love to life.

Blog8:My views on Human Cloning

With human cloning becoming a near-term prospect, we are brought face-to-face with the most basic ethical questions of life. Opinions differ widely as to whether human cloning should be prohibited.
True, human cloning clearly has much to offer. By using cells from the patient’s own body to grow organs to replace diseased parts, the problem of rejection can be avoided. This might prove useful, to illustrate, in fighting leukemia through bone marrow transplants. But what about making an identical copy of a human being?
Ian Wilmut, who created Dolly the sheep, found the idea offensive. Professor Hank Greely at Stanford also finds the suggestion deeply disturbing. For one thing, the technology is far from perfect. There may be lots of miscarriages. There will also be deformed clones. What should we do with them? Should we simply keep the healthy clones and just kill off the ones with deformed bodies or defective brains? That, I am afraid, would offend the religious beliefs of a great many people. Even if the technology is perfect, who can guarantee no one will misuse it for evil purposes? To clone a Hitler or to produce new class divisions, with some designed to lead and others designed to serve?
Therefore, I am strongly opposed to human cloning for reproductive purposes. The government should enact laws to prohibit it. Non-reproductive cloning, on the other hand, should be encouraged. It may mean hope to those who are waiting desperately for organs for transplantation to save their lives. If used wisely the technology may eventually free humans from many kinds of suffering that today seem unavoidable.
