Blog 7 The smells in the Sistine Chapel

Last week, I watched a film called Good Will Hunting. The plot is simple while the lines have profound implications. One scene in the film is when the genius but self-abandoned boy is sent to the therapist. The boy does not want to work with the therapist, so he uses tricky words as contempt. Then the therapist pushes back at the boy to overcome his defense mechanisms. The following is my favourite lines.

So if I asked you about art, you'd probably give me the skinny on every art book ever written…But I'll bet you can't tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel. You've never actually stood there and looked up at that beautiful ceiling; seen that. If I ask you about women, you'd probably give me a syllabus about your personal favorites… But you can't tell me what it feels like to wake up next to a woman and feel truly happy….And I'd ask you about war, you'd probably throw Shakespeare at me, right, "once more unto the breach dear friends." But you've never been near one. You've never held your best friend's head in your lap; watch him gasp his last breath looking to you for help.

The words impress me so much because I see my own problem on the boy. And it seems to be a common problem among many youngsters. We learn from books, the Internet and other media. We appear to be knowledgeable and can easily spout our “splendid” ideas towards a topic such as art or war. However, few of us have ever experienced them on our own. When I know about this, I feel ashamed of myself for my thoughtless remarks in the past.

The therapist in the film taught me a lesson and I learned two things through it. One is to be cautious about our words. It is because people can never understand a situation thoroughly unless they experience it. The other one is to be willing to experience. Be willing to participate, to travel and to broaden the horizon and to form a critical perspective. I hope I can tell the smells in the Sistine Chapel one day.

Blog 8 Lost in the university life

I read a blog of my friend’s the other day. Since there are only a several days before the end of being freshmen, she wrote about her reflection of her first year in the university. The passage was like a wake-up call because it classified my confusion which has troubled me for a long time.

My friend wrote that the important reason why she could not adjust to university life was “nostalgia” for the last year in senior high school. I have the same feeling with her. Because of the college entrance examination, everyone in the high school seems to have the same aim-the university. It may be the only time in my life when all the people around me were heading towards the same destination. However, when it comes to university, there are so many different roads ahead us--exchange programmes, CAP and going abroad. We just do not know which road leads to our dream; or rather, which road is the shortest. We faced many choices in China and we are not facing less in Singapore.

A sentence from my friend’s teacher was profound. ”Are you pursuing success or just feeling afraid of failure?” If people are pursuing success, they will seize as many opportunities as they can. If people are afraid of failure, they will push away every opportunities and wait for the so-called “best one”. For me, maybe I am more like the latter one. I am not willing to try whatever I cannot control. I am scared of failure because I am afraid of being frustrated, losing face and disappointing my father. My friend said she could not accustom to the new life due to the feeling of insecurity. And this is also what I was worrying about. Anyway, after reading her blog, I feel clearer in mind.

After all no one can tell what the future holds. And no one knows which way is the shortest to realizing our dream. Whatever challenges we meet, at least we can learn from it. I think this process is also the treasure we get from the university life. Hopefully I will not lose my way.

Blog 6 Personalities are like a box of chocolates

“Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. "

Chocolate seems to be a typical metaphor for life. In my opinion, different characteristics are like a box of chocolates as well. As a big fan of chocolate, I am fond of tasting various kinds of chocolates. And I think different kinds of chocolates can represent different characters. For example, milk chocolate is sweet and lovely. White chocolate is charming and tolerant. Nut chocolate is adventurous but maybe kind of childish. Black chocolate is distant and calm. Mint chocolate is energetic but odd.

In the daily life, I have encountered people of various personalities, as close friends or nodding ones. Of course I have my own preference of personalities but I am still sad to see people change themselves in order to cater to others’ opinions. Here I am referring to the basic characters rather than the living habits or speaking styles. For example, girls may pretend to be shy and naïve while they are actually lively. Although it is true that people should get along with others, this does not mean they are obligated to give up their own personalities. People may do this frequently in order to live easier. However, personally I don’t think it is right. It is just the same as chocolates. Among all the flavors, milk chocolate maybe the most popular one. So should the producer change the other favors to milk as well? There is no such thing of “best flavor” since every flavor is unique, therefore irreplaceable.

Various personalities are like a box of chocolates. Personality is no right or wrong. When people try to cater the others, they may be more popular, but may also lose themselves. The differences are the treasures that distinguish people from each other. When we are confused, just be ourselves, which may be the best way.

blog 9The Wenyanwen

Since the campaign lead by Mr HuShi, there are no wenyanwen, which is the ancient Chinese style of writing, existing at all. At that time, people were very happy to break the bounder of the limitation of writing. However, these years, increasing number of people wonder that whether we should deny the wenyanwen. Moreover, people are huyu that we should start learning how to write and use wenyanwen, instead of the baihuawen, which we are learning. In my opinion, the wenyanwen should be developed again, but it will be a hard road for Chinese linguists to go, or, maybe it is impossible for us to restart this beautiful language with a history of thousands of years.
Frankly, I think there are rarely genuine brilliant writers in China, including those very popular writers, like Guojingming, or Zhengyuanjie. Although their novels are popular, interesting, but I think they are not the art of literature.Their work can never reflect the beauty of Chinese. The beauty of Chinese, is existing in the disappearing Wenyanwen.        Reading LiBai’s poems, we can feeling his bold and generous. When we read the poems of DuFu, we can understand his worry about the people and country. Besides the poems, the Chinese four greatest novels, Xiyouji, Sanguoyanyi, Shuihuzhuan, and Hongloumeng, represents the peak of Chinese literature. Especially Hongloumeng, it represents the peak of the literature.Uptill now, there was no novel could compared with this great novel. Even one poem in this novel can be a brilliant work. Therefore, wenyanwen is never the things that we should abandond, in the contrast, it is the languish that should be passed down to every generation . \
Nowadays, some people have realized the importance and the beauty of wenyanwen. There are many schools founded specially for wenyanwen. However, one problem is, no teachers. From quantity, there are less students choose to study Chinese in their universities. Moreover, nowadays, even the professors can not write a good passage in wenyanwen, like those famous ones, for example, TengWangGeXu. That is why hundreds years ago there can be a campaign of reviving ancient languish and now we can not.
Actually, what I can do to revive the wenyanwen is to wirte this blog.Maybe I should borrow some books from Chinese Library to study some wenyanwen.

blog 8Mum, I love you

Today is Mother's day.
Happy Mother's day,Mum.
Yesterday, when I chated with my mother, I told her, "Happy Mother's day, Mum. "When I hung up the phone. It seemed that I forgot something. This morning, when I woke up, my roomate reminded me that today is Mother's Day. Then ,I thought of what I hd missed yesterday. I forgot to say ,"Mum, I love you. "

My mother is always very kind, maybe it is related to her job--a prymary school teacher. Therefore, whenever she teach me, she will use the softly tone which she uses to taech her students, to educate me.She rarely scolds me, even I have  made my junior high school teacher anngry, she did not beat me. At that time, the teachers in the junior high school always beat the students ver hard, and used some impertinent words to scold students. Therefore, at that time, my mother told the teacher not to beat me, as a experienced teacher, my mother knew that the corporal punishment will leave a shadow in the students heart and it will badly influence the future development of the students, especially in the character. She always has her own way to teach me, which is proved to be the most suitable and succcessful with me. She teaches me how to use anothetr way to solve problems, which makes me see something others cannot notice. Moreover, she bought equipment to teach me how to do experiments since I entered the primary school. Although at that time I did not know why, it increased my interest in science and developed my ability of doing experiments.
Today is the first Mother's Day that I do not spend with my mother. Perviously, I would buy a little present, which can represent my love to my mother, with a bouquet of flowers and a picture drawn by me. although every year she told me not to waste the money, I knew she was very happy and felicity with my presents and paintings. This year, I can not buy mother a present and give her my drawing on Mother's Day. However, I know that she will still very happy, felicity and proud of me, because I have been chosen as a scholar in NUS. Although I am in Singapore, my love for you is still the sam as before, or, more than before.

Mother, I love you, more than  everyone in the world.

Since human start the first indusrial revolution, the society has been rapidly developed. We chase the advanced science and technology. However, we seem to negolate the problem it may take to us. This is serious and people have been arguing for it for several  decades before. In my opinion, there are many benifits that technology has given us but also includeing the problems. Here, I want ot talk about two kinds of problems. One is the cloning problem an dthe other is the safety of food.

The first ethic problem, is  coming up with the cloning technology. To some extent, it is one of the most important development in the history of human being. We find the way to "create" a new life that meets our requirement. However, it also gives us endless  worry because  we think what will happens if someone clones a human. There are many films talking about this, such as "Star wars " and "The sixth ady". They both talking about the serious wars because of the cloned people. What is more, cloning is beyond the imagination of the founders of the religions. So, it is unacceptable to the religion rules. In my opinion, it is definitely that our world will be in chaos if human begin to clone thenselves. Therefore, we should try our best to control and forbid cloning people. However, the world is enomous and the technology is no longer a secret. So, who knows whether there will  be a cornor in the world where someone is cloning him or herself.
The second problem is about the safety of food. Nowadays, there are thousands of  additives in the food around us. To some extent, they are great achievement in chemistry becausse with the help of them ,we can keep our food much longer and makes them taste delicious. However, not all of them are good to our body. What is more, there may be many existed additives whose  toxic element can not be detected by today's technology. As a result, everyday we eat hundreds of kinds of additives and to some extent, it ahnothing different with chronic poisoning. Therefore, I think we should ban some kinds of additives because it is not only for our generation ,but also may influnces the next generations.

blog 8

I noticed the situation when I had a class in lecture theatre. After that, I find it is common in public.

According to a poll conducted by WWF for Earth Hour 2011,nearly half of residents in Singapore find air-conditioning in public areas to be too cold.

"The aim of the poll was to determine how comfortable people currently are with air-conditioning temperatures in the country."

I think the poll has better work on finding how uncomfortable people currently are with the air-conditioning in Singapore. The number of respondents is 450. 40% of them claim that schools and offices are too cold and half of them think the environment of schools and offices are like the autumn of Seoul. One forth of them prefer use the winter of Siberia. For me, the North Pole is better. 69% of people who feel cold wear a coat. One forth of them warm them by walking outdoors or going to the toilets.

I think too low temperature does not make sense. Low temperature does not make people comfortable and it also does not save source.

The poll is done when the Earth Hour is going.
Earth Hour is a global initiative where individuals, businesses, governments and communities are encouraged to turn out their lights for one hour.

blog 7 Massacre of Dogs

These days, some people claims there remains dogs massacre in Harbin. In contrast, many people on the Internet express attitude against it. Because dogs massacre is merely individual situation in Harbin and some imagines is not true as there is coco in it, it is ridiculous. However, the situation in Harbin is not the point but people’s view. The reason why I pay attention to massacre of dogs is I watch a video of a debate. Its name is International Varsity Debate Varsity which is hosted in Beijing and Singapore in turns every tow year. The debate is between Wuhan University and NUS. The topic is whether people should cull stray dogs in the cities. My own opinion is that culling the stray dogs is difficult to be managed well.  Indiscriminate killing is cruel. Now the topic is not the one in debate several years ago. Lawless elements steal dogs in batches. The behaviours done by volunteers are not enough. People always abandon their dogs in the streets. As a result, more stray dogs appear. People need not to do much protect on dogs. If no one abandons dogs and look after them well, there will be no problems.

blog5 Different personalities make this world beautiful

Today, I have just finished an interesting test on my QQ .The test use my constellation and my age to identify my personality. To some extent, I do not believe this kind of tests, which is without any scientific evidence. What is more, it  always draws the same conclusion to many people.
In my opinion, there are never two persons in this world have the same personality. Everyone has his or her own experience and every tiny decision he or she makes, will influence his or her life and makes it different from others. I like this difference, because it makes people around me differnt and every time I ask the same question to others, I can always get some different, but brilliant ideas, which could always give me some inspiration. What is more, every day, I chat and cooperate with people whose personalities are different from each other. This is a challenge but also a good chance to develop my EQ and ability to communicate with others when I get along with different people and try to make friends with them.
We can never live in this world and every one is the same. This will make this world boring and dull. If everyone can use one colour to accurately describe his or her personality. I think these colours will make up the most beautiful picture I have ever seen. The same as rainbow, one colour is dull no matter how bright and strong it is . However, if there are seven colours combined with each other, they constitute the most beautiful bridge in this world. Maybe sometimes I will meet someone whose personality or values is different from mine. I think it will seem like I am looking at myself in the mirror. Everything is different so that I can see and think in a totally different way towards this world when I listen and learn his or her thoughts and ideas.

[blog 7]Who is my ideal girlfriend?

Finding a girlfriend is a crucial step in boys’ life, because it is of high possibility that the girl will become their lifelong partner. When boys grow up, they do not want to share everything with their parents and friends. At this time, girlfriends are good listeners and can also give boys’ some advice. Thus, girlfriends play an important role in boys’ life. I want to share with you some of my requirements of my girlfriend.

Good personalities are very momentous. First, she should be considerate, which can make up for my careless and heedless. Besides, she’d better have a sense of humor and laugh easily. Otherwise our life will become monotonous and dull. Furthermore, I do not like a girl who is contrived, and I think natural and casual behaviors can make a girl beautiful and gracious.

When it comes to appearance, it is impossible for me to say I do not care. Almost very man has an inherent love for beauties. As for me, it cannot be better if she is beautiful. However, it is alright if she is not slim or sexy. Compared to looks, health is more important, because the girl is the one I want to be with forever. However beautiful she is, it will finally fade. Only health will last for a long time.

To conclude, good personalities and health are some of the qualities that I am looking for. Different people have their own demands of their boyfriend/girlfriend. How about you???

blog 6

  •         Today is Good Friday, the last Friday before Easter in a year.Coincidently,a Chinese festival has just past. I am preparing reading a new novel chronicle in stone. It is a story about young Albanian and a primitive Albania awakening into the modern world.

  •         Last a few days, I give a oral report about something happened in Google+. Google +is a website providing a platform to communicate and know more information from famous people like Barack Obama.

  •        However because of problems of technique, lots of Chinese net citizens log in Google+ to set focus on him. As a result of the limit of showing responds, Chinese make up of most part of net page. When I was giving the oral report, I thought the situation would not  last long. I am wrong.

Blog 5 Decadent life

I always find it difficult to answer such questions as "What is your dream?" "What do you want to do?"   To be honest, I have no idea about these questions. Maybe it is kind of strange; however, this is me, an decadent.
So what is a decadent life? Is it a kind of life that is filled with smoking, alcohol and sex without marriage? Well, in my opinion, a passive attitude toward life is the beginning of a decadent life.
I am aware that decadent life is no good for me and I tried to live a healthy life and work efficiently. Nevertheless, changing oneself is a tough task. I made a timetable but only held on to it for three days. I went to study room but only to be absent of mind. On weekends, I set seven alarm clocks on my phone but I still could not get up until noon. Since I can forgive myself easily, laziness is my forever enemy which I can never beat.
You may be curious about the link between laziness and decadent life. Well, if your plan is defeated by laziness, you will not manage to finish your assignments as perfect as your plan; therefore, frustration will gradually accumulate and capture you one day. My experience is just like that.
From my experience, my advice is that never try to live a so-called relaxing life. Life is a kind of moving on, so keep fighting or even struggling. Stopping on the half way is a beginning of decadent life.

Tracing our root

There is a old idiom in Chinese, “the fallen leaves return to the root”. It means no matter how far you have left your hometown; you will go back to your hometown when you are old. This leads me think that many Taiwanese have gone back to mainland China to find their hometown these years because of the free transforming between the two sides of the channel. It is quite moving when they found their hometown and met their relatives, whom they have never seen, or have not seen for several decades.
When one is young, s/he is longing to go out of their home and leave the government of their parents. S/he wants to go to an unfamiliar place to found her or his own career. Moreover, they enjoy themselves during this processing. They lose themselves in the flourish cities, luxury goods, and advanced technology. There are all kinds of lure , which attract them to chase the freedom and the bustling of the cities to see what the outside world looks like. They are young and strong, and they have the energy and confidence to fight for their wishes and desires. However, after years have passed, one day, they find that they are not young and strong any more. They can not run for their work and even walking is a difficulty for them. At this time, they begin to look back at their life. They see how many interests they have been, how many houses they own, but one thing, makes them fall into thinking, ‘Where do I come from’. They know that they are not belonged to the cities they have spent all their youth in. Now, they hear the calling of their hometown. Suddenly, they understand, no matter where they are, the only home of them is their hometown.

(blog4)Diffrence btween food

Since I have been in Singapore for nearly three months, I want to wirte something about the differences of pancake and Chinese burger between Singapore and China.

Firstly, I want to talk about the pancake in Singapore. There is a very famous pancake in Singapore--prata, which is from India. It is very delicious and every morning you can see many SM3 students buy it ,includingme. thre are three kinds of prata, plain, egg, and cheese. However, in China, the pancake contains sauger, meat, vegetables, or nothing. What is more, the material of the fiour also has many kinds while in Singapore it is ususally white flour. However, I prefer the prata because of its difference taste from Chinese pancake and the way to cook prata is interesting!

Next, I'm willing to write something about Chinese burger, which in Chia is called 'baozi'. In China ,there many kinds of 'baozi',in diiferent area, for example,TianjinGoubuli, xiaolongbao,KaiFengguantangbao. However, in my opinion, there are two main type of Chinese burger. One is the sweet and the other is salty. In China, baozi 's contains are always vegetables and meat, sometime there is soup in it.In Singpore, there are a range of contains of both the sweet and the salty, such as dousha, lianrong, and butter . What is more, in the salty, there are always chicken and pork while in China it is always pork and beef.
In conclusion, both China and Singapore have kinds of delicious food, and we can see the difference and similatity between them.Furthermore, we can still see the culture differences behind the food. So, to some extent, it is really a delicious way to study the culture differencess through food.

Who is the best? LeBron or Kobe ?

Nowadays, there is no doubt that LeBron James and Kobe Bryant are the best two basketball players in the world. They stand for the highest standard of NBA conference and are idols of thousands of young basketball fans. They have similarities in many aspects. For instance, they both have perfect basketball skills and play a vital role in their own team. Besides, their desperate for victory motivates them build up their strength, confidence as well as skills.

Even so, they still have many differences. Kobe has got five championship rings till now, while LeBron still has nothing in his pocket. However, LeBron or Kobe? My answer is LeBron. Why? First of all, compared to Kobe, he is more a leader and he knows how to encourage his teammates in the most proper way. Besides, I also admire his filial piety. In the past few years, his mother has done many stupid things that make LeBron very embarrassed, but he also shows much respect to his mother. Furthermore, his loyalty to love deeply touched me. Unlike many basketball stars, LeBron is loyal to his girlfriend, although she is not pretty. They have gone through much tough time, I believe they can finally get into the wedding church and live a happy life.

Maybe you are not interested in basketball, but once you get to know this guy, you cannot help falling in love with him.

And the new season has begun for some time, I hope I can be the witness of LeBron's getting his first champion ring. God bless him!

Blog 4 A dream wife?

What are most boys’ expectations on their wives nowadays? Are they still fond of an elegant lady? Or are they more likely to marry a modern girl with strong character?

Actually I am quite curious about these questions. Unfortunately, no one in our class has ever written about this topic. For this reason, I am writing about my views towards a dream wife. I will appreciate it if you share your views with me in your reply.
If I were looking for my wife, the first thing I took into consideration may be the character. Above all, I must be able to get along with her. I may regard it as a spice of life, if we have words with each other once a month. However, everyday quarrels can drive me mad.
Also, I would have certain expectations upon her appearance. For example, she can be cute, delicate and pretty but not a campus belle-because I would not be pleased when my wife were attractive to all the other men!
Besides, it would be better if she had concept with money as well as taste of clothes. Here are some detailed expectations: lively, gracious, sexy, considerate, be able to do some basic housework, have her own hobbies…and most important, have family values!
Anyway, a wife is different from a girl friend. Moreover, as far as I am concerned, at our age, we are supposed to take marriage as the goal for love (except for those lovers who cannot get married by law).
In the end, what is your expectation upon your husband/wife?

【blog 4】the disappearing book stores

Books have been being with me from when we were children. In developed countries, books are dear and people prefer to read using machines such as phones, pad, e-book etc. The situation in developing countries trends in same way.E-reading becomes increasingly popular. In contract, markets of paper books are facing the problem of deficit. When I went to a book store, there were always many people reading and walking around but few people bought books. As are result, some book stores cancelled the seats beside the shelves. Few students like me sometimes chose sitting on the floor to finish reading an interesting novel. There were still some people loving reading paper books but anyhow the number of people had becoming decreasing. At past, the pirate books took a big part of book market, but students even do not buy pirate books now let alone the expensive ones in book stores. Book market becomes less prosperity and going into liquidation turns into a common problem which lots of book stores and big companies are faced with. Trying to please the public with claptrap, some young graduators set up a kind of bookstore called close down in 30 daysThe idea works well, but it is obviously could not change the situation that almost other book stores have few customers. In honest, the rest rooms of bookstores are the tidies among the public.

【blog 3】

These days,I have some perception and thinking about a character in a teleplay. He used to be  a normal Chinese who has studied

Jailbreak for Apple, legal or not? (BLOG 3)

Nowadays, Apple products have become a trend of fashion. It is often seen people playing with their iPhones, iPads or iPod touch everywhere, anytime.

So, why these Apple products are so attractive to us? I believe it has something to do with their confortable feeling. More importantly, there is a sea of interesting and useful application software, which we can download from App Store.

Here comes the point. Unlike Nokia or Android handsets, the recourse of Apple software is not open, that is, we have to pay for these software before we have access to them.

Although you can afford an iPhone, an iPad, it is hard to buy so much expensive application.

So, is there any way to get software without paying? The answer is JAILBREAK . Because of jailbreak, you can download various software, not only from App Store, but other websites, for free.

However, this has widely aroused disagreement about whether it is legal to jailbreak your Apple products. Different people hold different opinions. As far as I am concerned, after we bought these products, they became our private possession. We have the right to do anything with them, of course, jailbreak included. Nevertheless, it is improper to download pirated software from those illegal websites.

  So, what is your opinion?
